Methods & Materials, Inc. has been installing the permanent collections of galleries, museums, municipalities, corporations and private collectors since 1990. From the installation of a large gallery or museum collection to the installation of a single, signature artwork in a lobby or plaza, Methods & Materials, Inc. has the expertise, experience and professionalism necessary to oversee all aspects of your installation – from communication with artists and architects to specification and fabrication of the installation hardware. Once the pieces are permanently installed, Methods & Materials, Inc. can provide the ongoing care that your collection deserves.
Methods & Materials, Inc. has established a professional rapport with art galleries and museums around the country. Our services provide venues with safe and efficient installation and de-installation of temporary exhibits – from ancient artifacts to contemporary sculpture. We offer either a full crew to expertly handle all aspects of a project, or a Rigging Supervisor to work with your preparators to ensure a smooth installation. In addition, we are happy to provide the consulting services needed in the early phases of installation design.
We provide knowledgeable and efficient project management for traveling exhibitions, and we also supply exhibit support services, including administration, trucking and security, as well as rigging and installation/de-installation services. From fossils to locomotives, sarcophagi to totem poles, Methods & Materials, Inc. has the know-how to install the most challenging traveling exhibitions.
Our heated warehouse provides storage for sculpture and artifacts. We de-install art pieces and arrange for the construction of crates and transportation to our facility. There we provide safe and cost-effective storage until re-installation is convenient.
Don't Sweat the Big Stuff is Methods & Materials, Inc.'s rigging training program. Designed to teach basic rigging techniques, this weeklong course concentrates on moving heavy but fragile museum artifacts. As well as state-of-the-art instruction, each participant receives a copy of Methods & Material's comprehensive rigging manual filled with invaluable information on rigging techniques, tools, tips, and tricks of the trade. This course is offered in even numbered years at the Campbell Center (link: campbellcenter.org)
Can't conserve the piece on site? Object too big to fit in your studio? Let us de-install the piece and transport it to our Conservator's Workspace in our heated, secure facility. If necessary, fabrication of new elements can be completed in our metal and wood shops. When conservation work is complete Methods &Materials, Inc. can re-install the piece in its original location.
From large-scale totem poles to precious Egyptian artifacts, we have the expertise, experience and facilities to design and fabricate mounts for pieces of any size.
